Build Health Studios

Health, Safety and Emergency Policy

Build Health Studios Pty Ltd | Effective date: 1 June 2026

1. Purpose and Scope

This policy applies to all members, casual attendees, coaches, contractors and visitors at Build Health Studios. Its purpose is to support a safe training environment, set minimum health and safety requirements, and outline the procedures to be followed in the event of an injury, illness, hazard or emergency. All persons on the premises must comply with this policy and with any reasonable direction given by staff in relation to health, safety or emergency response.

2. Health Screening and Participation

All new members must complete the studio’s pre-exercise screening requirements before participating in any class, program or training session. Where a screening response, observed condition or other information indicates a potential health risk, Build Health Studios may require the member to obtain medical clearance before participating, or may limit, modify, suspend or refuse participation until it is satisfied that participation can occur safely.

Members must promptly disclose to staff any injury, illness, pregnancy, surgery, medical condition or physical limitation that may affect safe participation, and must notify the studio as soon as practicable if their health status changes. Participation in exercise and fitness activities involves inherent risks, including the risk of injury. Members must train within their capabilities and comply with all instructions, restrictions and modified movements given by coaches. Where a coach considers that participation is not safe, the coach may stop or modify the activity.

3. Staff Responsibilities and Supervision

Build Health Studios will take reasonable steps to provide a safe training environment, including maintaining a first aid kit, providing appropriate staff supervision during operating hours, and giving members reasonable instructions regarding safe participation and use of equipment. Coaches may provide exercise modifications where appropriate and may direct a member to stop, modify or not undertake an activity where there is a health or safety concern. Equipment, exits, walkways and emergency access points must be kept clear at all times, and hazards or damaged equipment must be reported to staff immediately.

4. Medical Emergencies and First Aid

In the event of a serious injury, suspected medical emergency or collapse, staff will call 000 without delay and administer first aid within the scope of their training until emergency services arrive. Members and visitors must not attempt to move or treat an injured person unless directed by staff or unless immediate action is reasonably necessary to prevent further harm. Emergency contact details held by the studio may be used where appropriate in connection with a medical emergency. If an automated external defibrillator is installed on the premises, staff may use it in accordance with their training. If no on-site AED is available, staff will respond in accordance with emergency services directions and available emergency resources.

5. Fire and Evacuation Procedures

If there is a fire, smoke, alarm, or a direction from staff to evacuate, all persons must leave the premises immediately and proceed calmly to the designated assembly point shown on the evacuation diagram. Persons on the premises must follow all staff directions during an evacuation, must not obstruct exits or emergency access, and must not re-enter the premises until authorised to do so. Fire safety equipment is provided for emergency use only. Any misuse of fire safety equipment may result in suspension or termination of access to the studio and recovery of reasonable replacement or repair costs where appropriate.

6. Incident and Hazard Reporting

All injuries, illnesses, hazards, near misses and emergency events occurring on the premises must be reported to staff as soon as practicable. Build Health Studios will maintain an incident reporting process and may record, review and investigate incidents for health and safety, operational and legal purposes. Members and staff must cooperate with any reasonable request for information relating to an incident or hazard.

7. Review of Policy

This policy may be reviewed and updated from time to time to reflect changes in the studio’s operations, applicable legal requirements, industry guidance, or health and safety practices.
